Giornata delle Ville Venete 21 e 22 ottobre 2023

The secrets of Villa Manin

Villa Manin will also participate in the second edition of the Venetian Villas Day event scheduled for 21 and 22 October 2023.
During the Days of Venetian Villas it will be possible to visit Villa Manin with exceptional guides who will illustrate its secrets and curiosities.
A unique opportunity to learn more about the residence of the last Doge of the Republic of Venice.

Restoration work on the frescoes and decorations in the central hall and the two monumental staircases at the Villa Manin has been in progress since last spring and until autumn.

The work is currently in its final stages. Based on a project by restorer Claudia Ragazzoni of the Opera Est company from Trieste, the Co.sv.e.m. company from Castelfranco Veneto consolidated, cleaned and retouched stucco, marble and frescoes to restore the three rooms to their former glory.
Through the innovative use of 3D printing, the missing element of the eagle in the decoration of the former monumental east staircase was recreated.

On the occasion of the Venetian Villas Day, organised by the IRVV Istituto Regionale Ville Venete and the Association for Venetian Villas to raise awareness, promote and deepen knowledge of the Venetian Villas and their values through concrete experiences, the public will be able to enjoy special guided tours of the newly restored rooms by the experts. For the Friends of the Venetian Villas, access to the restoration site will be prioritised, and closed-door visits to normally inaccessible areas of the villa will be possible.

The restoration works are part of the redevelopment of the monumental compendium coordinated by the Friuli Venezia Giulia Regional Cultural Heritage Agency, which since 2018 has seen the execution of structural consolidations, restoration work on the main façade and the complete renewal of the fire-fighting system for the reopening to the public, and which will lead, once the windows and doors have also been replaced, to the possibility of staging important exhibitions inside the noble body of the Villa once again.

Programme

Saturday 21 and Sunday 22 October 2023

10 a.m. and 3 p.m. – Special visit dedicated to the restorations of the Villa Manin

Together with the professionals who supervised the restoration of the Villa Manin we will discover the techniques and processes used. How can stuccoes and frescoes be restored to their ancient splendour? Can classical methods be combined with more innovative technologies? At Villa Manin we used not only paints and brushes, but also 3D printing with recycled material. During this visit, you will be able to see the various stages of the interventions and ‘touch’ the technologies used.
The visit lasts approximately 1 hour at a price of €12 per person, children under 12 free accompanied by a paying adult.

Gli Amici delle Ville Venete will be able to extend their experience with a visit to the attics of the Villa Manin, generally closed places that hold stories and secrets.

Restorers at work (workshop for children aged 6 to 10)
Villa Manin is an ancient residence that will amaze anyone who enters it with its painted walls, illusionistic frescoes and pictorial views. But beware! Time is slowly making its treasures disappear: we call upon young restorers to save the Villa’s frescoes! In a recreated restoration workshop, the challenge will be to fill in the gaps in the images and imitate the original colours, in an adventurous journey through artistic techniques, brushes and colours.
The workshop lasts approximately 2 hours at a price of €5 per child.

10.30 a.m. and 3.30 p.m. – Getting to know Villa Manin
An opportunity for those who have not yet visited the residence of the last Doge of the Venetian Republic to immerse themselves in the architecture of one of the largest Venetian villas ever built. From the chapel of Sant’Andrea to the multimedia route, from Flora’s room to Napoleon’s room, we will take you through the history and architecture that have made this place unique.
The visit lasts approximately 1 hour at a price of €12 per person, children under 12 free accompanied by a paying adult

Sunday 22 October 2023

2 p.m. – Floricultural and Botanical Walk in the Park of Villa Manin
The park of Villa Manin is the largest historical park in Friuli Venezia Giulia. Together with the botanical expert Giancarlo Stasi we will walk among century-old trees, exotic plants, native species and ancient statues.
